spread the <3

heyy you dota pple, check out trailer to Wrath of the Lich King haha woot, it's awesome!! watch it in full screen for the full awesomeness!

Lament of the HighBorne is quite a nice song. It's a tribute to the events surrounding the Fall of Quel'Thalas. Read this article for more information.

This is err a ys song, lol as i would aptly call it. I am Murloc! it's what i would call a noisy song haha.

And this, The Black Temple, this shuncheng u would prob be interested in. It tells the story of the expansion burning crusade, and how Illidan got to be in Outlands [the shattered floating remnants of the red world Draenor, the homeworld of the orcs and refuge of the draenei]. U can read this article for more information regarding Illidan hm.

And finally, this news report-styled video is for comic relief. it would help if u had some contextual knowledge of wow, but warcraft lore would do fine too heh.

Anyway, if ur busy and too lazy to watch all of them, i'd recommend u watch the trailer to WotLK and the Black Temple. Whee. Dun forget to watch them full screen =D

WoW rocks. hahahaha.

Astrophysics!

Why didn't i mug my astro space exploration notes? Why? Why? Why?

Ok here's something i have to tell you, shun cheng. my astro may look damn pro, but i based them mainly on messier catalog, black holes, stars, astrophysics, and blah blah blah the list goes on and on. But two things i've always neglected to put much time and effort in are NGC(new general catalog) and SPACE EXPLORATION. Back in RI, Ee Sin was supposed to cover these two topics for me during competitions, so i nvr worried abt them. Didn't study them much last year for NUS-NTU astrochallenge either. only know basic things like first dog in space and stuff.

And oh how i regretted my decision today when i saw the physics paper man. Polar orbit! And yes, i rmb seeing those two words in my space exploration notes when i glanced through them long time ago. So i went through my notes just now, and i'm damn sian diao now. let me quote my notes.

"Polar orbits are orbits that pass closely over both poles of the earth. These orbits have an inclination of close to 90 degrees, allowing them to cover virtually every part of the planet as the planet rotates. As such, these satellites are commonly used for mapping or surveillance operations. Polar orbits over the earth can also be used to measure the ozone concentration due to the altitude which they're at when they make their orbit. An example of a satellite with a polar orbit is that of the Magellan spacecraft orbiting Venus.

However, launching a polar orbit around earth would require more energy and hence more propellant, as its orbital inclination is high and such orbits cannot make use of the earth's rotational motion to give it a speed boost. "

WTH! everything is in there. This piece of info was supposed to have been ingrained in me since sec 3. damn it. i suck.

take a break

Take a break from studying, and de-stress for a while. Here's a funny video on youtube.

And for all you 18-year olds looking forward to driving (lol gen =p), here's an interesting email i received.

Disclaimer: I am in no way supporting the authenticity of the following content. So yongsheng, if the chain mail is in any way inaccurate/lousy/false/untrue, feel free to blast it. just dont blast me kthx.

---------

I've been in the petroleum pipeline business for about 31 years, currently
working for the Kinder-Morgan Pipeline here in San Jose, CA. We deliver
about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period from the pipe line; one day
it's diesel, the next day it's jet fuel and gasoline. We have 34 storage
tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Here are some
tricks to help you get your money's worth.

1. Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperature is still
cool. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried
below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser the gasoline. When it
gets warmer gasoline expands, so if you're filling up in the afternoon or
in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the
petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperature of the fuel
(gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products) are
significant. Every truckload that we load is temperature-compensated so
that the indicated gallonage is actually the amount pumped. A one-degree
rise in temperature is a big deal for businesses, but service stations
don't have temperature compensation at their pumps.

2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the time you want to
buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in the tank is being
stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might be transferring that
dirt from the bottom of their tank into your car's tank.

3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty), because the
more gas you have in your tank the less air there is and gasoline
evaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm.

(Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating 'roof' membrane to act as
a barrier between the gas and the atmosphere, thereby minimizing
evaporation.)

4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three delivery
settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeeze the
trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping at the
slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you are pumping.
Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as a return path for
vapor recovery from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping
at the high setting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is
being sucked back into the underground tank so you're getting less gas for
your money.

Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump'.

Okay, back to studying haha. All the best for As people! As much as gp doesnt seem important to study for, try and do a practice compre + essay over the weekend to get into the writing mood yups.

Your home is a

Four-wheeling Gamer's Retreat

Your kitchen is stocked with chips, dips, and assorted caffeinated beverages. There's a pantry with emergency backup caffeinated beverages. You also have some breakfast cereals in there, but you haven't had breakfast since last Spring. Your master bedroom has blankets printed with images of Mario and Link. Your study includes unread copies of various gamer magazines, each purchased for the free demo CDs. One of your garages is home to your ATVs, hangglider, snowmobiles, and jetskis. It also containts a truck the size of a boat, which pulls a boat the size of a bus.

Your home also includes a robot repair bay, where your mechanized servants are routinely fitted with new restraining bolts. (It's just a precaution.) Your guests enjoy your collection of every console and associated game ever made. Except the Intellivision -- those controllers drive them NUTS. Outside is your radio telescope, listening constantly for alien transmissions. Especially invaders. They'll come eventually, even if nobody believes you. (Nobody does.)

Below is a snippet of the blueprints:

great minds? really?

I just read the post on ulutootkia. Before u read this pls go read yiting's latest two posts.

And i realised that such chain mails(even some smses) are very very very effective at convincing people simply by citing a credible source. which is actually what i do in my gp essays, so my arguments look pro.

I received that email which yiting received long time ago. It was slightly different, but then again people like to change things abit before forwarding them on. But the main quotation of a Cambridge researcher stays.

Most people will read these things, think it's interesting, and forward them on. not me. Frankly, u can call me a freak if u want to, whenever i receive such emails, i always double check their citations before i believe them. I don't know of anyone else who is bo liao enough to do that, but to me, it ensures i can only useful info registered into my head.(sorry, my brain sucks, can't hold much things, so need to ration.)

But these checks r useful. Because just like my essays, the quotations are all fake. There is no cambridge researcher who has ever stepped up to claim that particular research work, or show the rest of his/her research to anyone. It could be that the researcher is very humble and shy, but this is rarely the case. So in simple words, the claim is fake.

Let me cite another example. You people might have seen this in ur email or sms inbox before.

Subject: Important News from Dubai Gov.

Dear All, If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that, he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press # 90 or #09 or any other number.

End this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your 'SIM' card and make calls at your expense.

Forward this message to as many friends as you can, to stop it.

All mobile users pay attention if you receive a phone call and your mobile phone displays (XALAN) on the screen don't answer the call, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY, if you answer the call, your phone will be infected by a virus.

This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and your SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect with the telephone network. You will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia. There are over 3 Million mobile phones being infected by this virus in all around the world now.

You can also check this news in the CNN web site.

I know ellen received an sms like this, but then i've long received this email before she did. This one cites motorola and nokia, huge handphone giants which everybody believes in. It also cites the very reliable CNN website. And being my usual self, i checked it out.

And the final info? Both nokia and motorola label this as a hoax, and a search of the CNN website turns up no stories of such a virus. The origins of this virus dates back to 1999, when it first appeared on the internet. It cautioned cell phone users to beware of answering calls from "UNAVAILABLE." In 2002 the hoax was revived for another run, that time cautioning mobile chatters against taking calls from "ACE-?". In 2005 it came back once again, in that instance to warn the cell-enabled to not accept calls from XALAN.

There is no such threat. No mobile phone viruses capable of infecting cell phones and erasing SIM cards have yet been discovered.

Moral of the story? Most people just read, see the name of an authoritative source confirming the story, and believe it. No one really bothers to check. Your cambridge examiners are probably like that too. And so? Spam sources and studies from authoritative sources that support your argument. Your gp might rock! haha kidding. don't try. later ur gp screw up u come and blame me. don't hor, i am hereby not responsible for any damages that may result from following my unwise remarks. yup ok.

And anyway, it's a fact that people usually believe these chain things as long as they don't attempt to weed money out of them. The Australian Psychological Society(APS) has published a report on how people easily fall for chain messgaes as long as they see that the mail has been forwarded to many people. They assume that if many people receive it, it's bound not to be a hoax. so there you are.

HAHA, for all those who still fell for and believed my last paragraph, please raise your hand and slap yourself! learn pls! And according to a cambridge researcher, i'm part of the 55% of people who have a strange mind =S

lalala, damn long post man.

Pressure

The picture says everything. A thousand words to be exact. so jia you for the A levels. Become a diamond, not a basketcase. yup.
-
And here, i shall have a special poem composed specially by me.
And the thing special about this poem? It's composed purely from warcraft III voices.(almost purely actually)
So it means the quality sucks, cuz i only have limited options to choose for my lines, but i still think i did a good job. so well, here it is. Italised words are actual voices from warcraft III. normal words are added by me to make it flow(or have some meaning).
-
Storm, earth fire, heed my call,
for the winds of war(A levels) draw near.
We humans need to stick together,
and we’ll go through this together.
We may have failed before,
but the moments have passed,
it’s time to even the scales.
For those who have done well,
Keep going, we can’t afford to lose ground.
For those who’ve done badly'
At last, we shall have revenge.
And whatever it is,
Victory will be ours.
For victory!

ok now, back to mugging. cya ppl.

Rjc open house

Rj is having open house tomorrow!

Ok that is probably the least of your concerns now, considering the make-or-break obstacle ahead, but i just thought it would be worth mentioning that tomorrow will be a NOISY day in rjc. so if u wanna go school to study, hide deep in the library. else you can enjoy the noise.
I had first hand experience of the noise today, when i went school to photocopy cca records and collect chem prelim papers. And the befrienders will be dancing the same befrienders' dance(i think) which i've forgotten about 70% of it alrdy. Chin ee pangseh me so i collected my own chem prelim papers. He was supposed to collect for the class and then pass one copy to me. so yah. wing dun come chase me for money pls. i very broke now. i owe pin $32, while my wallet has like $12. so yah.

Refering to the tags, chin ee, why the heck would graphite be better than coal? so what if can conduct? coal worth more as a diminishing supply of fuel, and enough pressure can turn it into diamond(woah mayb A levels pressure can turn shun cheng into diamond). Graphite in the meantime can do what? lubricant. lol.

And erm, shun cheng, u still havn't told me bout the competition money, but nvm, not interested in chasing it now, got A levels. And two people owe me $4.60 for physics prelim papers. I've forgotten who you are, but pls dun cheat me just because the part of my brain meant to chase you for money is now preoccupied with things like this.
So yah, pay me whenever you see me, i'm in serious need for money(see above). I'll probably be at almost every revision lecture, so not much excuse about not seeing me. yup thanks.

And erm i'll conclude by telling you i'll be posting another post soon. which you'll probably have read before you read this anyway. oh well.

Anniversary

*This post contains shoutouts to many people(many of whom won't be reading it), and will serve as a reminder to myself of what i have to do. If you feel this post is boring(cause it really is), feel free not to read it.

Tuesday, 11th september, was the anniversary of my friend.

His death anniversary.

I don't have the time to visit him, or even to prepare to visit him, but i remember him. A few of you may remember me playing under the name "Midknigh†" for a few games some time ago at the lan shop. It was a remembrance of him, a memento to him. Which is pretty much the reason why i chose to play the phantom assassin, one of his two favourite heroes. His other one is the nerubian assassin. Which was why i told chee chin i wanted the hero when he randomed it in a recent game. of which i was very very proud of it, for i played very well with it that game. 21 kills, a fitting tribute to a friend who would have been proud of it too.

And so, to Yf, i promised you i'll do well in dota, as a reminder of how good you were at it. I've done it. What i havn't achieved though, is the academic results. Of which i am sure you would have achieved good grades, but i havn't been able to do so for you. For that, i apologise, and i'll try my best in the A levels. I promise.

To my mother, I screwed up my prelims, and i'm sorry. I'm havn't been able to get the good grades you wanted. To be exact, i havn't even been able to get average grades. I suck, i know, and i'm sorry. I'll make the same promise to you as i made my friend a year ago. I'll work hard for my A levels.

To Ms June Tan, I know i told you in J1 about my stock market results. It made you very confident of what i can achieve in J2. but the stock market seems to have crashed, and i'm doing like shit now. really. I'm sorry i let u down. I completely did not fulfil your expectations. I didn't even come close. I'll practise very hard for my maths A levels. The stock market will perform again, i promise you.

To Ms Adeline Tan, I know you tried very hard to help me with my econs last year. I still did like shit. I let you down, and i'm sorry. I'll work hard for my A level, just like i promised the rest.

To
Stay strong and don't crumble k. This is not a good time to crumble. Prelims is over, heck the grades. If the teachers want to guai lan, let them be. I have a 48.95 and a 58.86, which could have easily warranted me a D and a B respectively, but i didn't get them either. If it helps, know that there's always someone worse off than you. And that someone worse off is going to sit for the same paper and try for 4 'A's too. That someone is me, as well as others out there who've done like shit too. I did like shit, i cried too, but i'll still be sitting for the same paper with all those promises up there to keep. Take care. Hope ratatouille cheers you up. Cause it's cute and funny.

To all those out there who've helped me these two years wif my studies, be it teach me how to do a question, lend me notes, lend me calculator during exams, a BIG THANK YOU.

And to you, Mr Ng Yong Sheng, You s***. So get your b***** hands moving and useless brain working and see to it that you keep those promises made above. Better stop screwing up, noob.

P.S To shun cheng, before i forget again, where's our money for the competition we won?

Mugging and Alcohol

It has been proven. Mugging is a close substitute for alcohol, both have generally similar effects on the human mind (thus, you can save all that money on drinking alcohol even though you're 18. use the money for computer entertainment instead). And mugging, addictive though it is, should be similarly banned for under-18s.

In mild amounts (BAC 0.03-0.12%), alchohol results in euphoria.
In mild amounts (8-12 hours a day), mugging results in euphoria, self-confidence, and a shorter attention span stemming from the mindset of "I'm too pro to mug this useless stuff"

In larger amounts (BAC 0.09-0.25%), alcohol results in excitement, sleepy, blurred vision, trouble with understanding and remembering things. Ditto for mugging (12-16 hours / day)

In large amounts (BAC 0.18-0.30%), alcohol results in confusion, dizziness, and makes people highly emotional and less sensitive to pain.
In large amounts (16-20 hours / day), mugging results in similar effects, with clear symptoms such as highly emotional nicknames (Argh! WTO! I HAVEN'T FINISHED MUGGING CHEM AND IT'S TOMORROW MORNING!). Being less sensitive to pain goes without speaking. After 16-20 hours of trying to tahan mugging, the body loses its pain sensitivity. Natural survival mechanism.

In extreme amounts (BAC 0.25-0.40%), alcohol results in unresponsiveness, stupor, and possible vomiting.
In extreme amounts (>20 hours a day), mugging results in similar symptoms, including a rather high tendency to regurgitate during examinations.

If there’s no alcohol in MUG Root Beer, why else do they call it beer?

If you don't believe me, read your Chem notes Lecture Notes 11 Appendix page 15.

Shiver me timbers!

Haha i just realised something.

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Really. Haha so people actually celebrate by dressing up and talking like a pirate for the whole of today. Muahaha sounds fun.

Yeah and i'm happy today. maths didn't go as badly as i thought it would. I now actually have a good chance of passing, despite doing just 6 out of 14 qns for paper 1. yay.

Damn

The paper landed in front of him, and the clock struck 8...

The small orchish force landed silently on the deserted shore. Moving like seasoned war veterans, they lined up their formation, grunts leading the pack, troll headhunters covering the back, with demolishers at the very back. Wolf raiders flanked the troop on either side. With a signal from their shadow hunter, they moved forth, headed for the first night elf expansion on this island.

A tall looming cliff appeared in front of the marauding party. Magical shining runes were encrypted on the cliff faces. “Measurement…” read an orc grunt, “What does that mean, Warchief?”

Before the tauren chieftain could respond, a small shower of arrows rained upon them. “The night elves! This is their first expansion base! Charge! For the horde!” The orcs moved swiftly, the grunts and raiders trying to find a way to get up the cliff, while the troll headhunters attempted to fire their spears back at the archers enjoying the terrain advantage. However, the cliff was too high, and the trolls couldn’t get good throws up the cliff. While the expansion’s defense force was small, comprising of only about 4 archers, they were a troublesome lot on this terrain.

Charging round the back, the orcs finally found a way up the cliff. Once up the cliff, the archers did not pose much of a threat, pummeled to the ground by the grunts’ axes. Taking out the expansion did not prove to be much harder either. However, the night elves seemed to have sounded an alarm.

“Bad start, mon, bad start. 17 minutes we used. Not good” the shadow hunter commented. The tauren chieftain was well aware of that. “Hurry, we don’t have much time, the night elves know we’re here now, it won’t be long before they call in their reinforcements. We probably only have 1 hr 15 mins. If their chimaeras or mountain giants arrive, we won’t stand much of a chance. Move!”

The orcs set off again. They came upon the second expansion base, and set about destroying it, the demolishers raiders taking out the enchanted buildings, while the grunts and trolls cutting down the defenders. Nevertheless, the warchief was not satisfied. “32 mins, we’re running out of time!” “43 mins left!” the shadow hunter added.

The orcs moved with much more urgency now, boosted by the warchief endurance aura, they ran riot swiftly taking out the 3rd expansion, ten the 4th, then the 5th. They moved with speed, vigour and urgency never seen before. It was scary, the marauding orcs. But their bad start seemed to have costed them dearly. They were sorely out of time. The night elves main base were preparing a defense, one that was nearly completed.

“Hurry, we’ll skip this,” commanded the warchief, as they arrived at the 6th expansion “head for the main base. For the horde!”. With a final burst of vigour, the orcs burst forth, gaining moral as they moved, empowered by their swift demolishing of the last 3 expansions, as the chieftain activated a scroll of speed. Moving at speeds once thought unattainable, they marched for the night elves’ main base.

At last, the main base appeared in front of their eyes. “This is it. Attack!” With the command, the orcs hurled forth, set on demolishing the base to rubble. Grunts exchanged blows with huntresses, while the trolls and raiders went for the dryads. The demolishers went about their usual job of razzing the buildings to bits.

But they were too late. To the north, the sky darkened, as a purplish cloud appeared over the battlefield. “The chimaeras! The chimaeras are here!” shouted the warchief. The raiders and trolls turned to face the new threat, even as the grunts fell to zaps of electrical energy. Nets flew from the raiders, dragging the chimaeras down to the grounds, while spears from the trolls attempted to pierce the chimaeras’ armour. The shadow hunter released a healing wave to aid the trolls, in the hope of making them last longer on the battlefield. But they were no match for the chimaeras. Even as the orcs fell by the numbers, the warchief signaled a retreat. Activating a scroll of town portal, they were out of the battlefield.

Let down, yet again, by time management. Yet again. While they had conquered about 47 out of 60 parts of the land, it was no where near good. They could have claimed everything, ravaged every single bit of land, tearing everything down. Instead, they were forced to retreat...

And the paper flew off the table, into a stack of papers in the teacher's hands.
